How to Reach UsSituated in the southeast of Europe, in the very heart of the Mediterranean, opposite of Italy, a more widely known country with which it shares the Adriatic Sea, Croatia is recognizable by its bird-like geographic shape. Besides Italy, its first neighbors include several members of Former Yugoslavia, now independent states, namely Slovenia in the northwest, Bosnia and Serbia in the east and Montenegro in the southeast. In the north, Croatia borders with Hungary. Zagreb Airport, also known as Pleso Airport, is the largest and most frequented airport in Croatia. It operates a large number of direct flights to most European centers.
Continuously investing in modern road infrastructure (hundreds of kilometers of new highways) over the past eight years, Croatia has significantly raised the level of transportation connections within its own borders. Besides by air, Croatia can be reached by car, train or boat. Istria is Croatia's westernmost region situated in the far north of the Adriatic, i.e. Mediterranean basin. It is recognizable on the map by it peninsular, triangular shape. The guests from the neighboring western countries, Slovenia, Italy and Austria, most frequently opt for car transportation, mainly due to the newly built highways creating a Y-shaped road infrastructure (soon to be fully completed). As Croatia is a small country, those coming from more distant European areas opting for car transportation will not be faced with a mission impossible either.
Pula Airport ensures regular flight connections for those coming from the most distant areas as well. Istria can also be reached by special boat and rail lines via the surrounding countries and other parts of Croatia. The southwestern coast of Istria boasts a very popular tourist center – Rovinj.
It is located only a half-hour drive from the Pula Airport and somewhat more than an hour’s drive from the border with Slovenia and Italy. Considering the fact that Rovinj has one of the largest and best-equipped marinas in the Adriatic boasting several ideal natural anchoring spots, it is also a favorite sailing destination.
